Topsail Adventures COVID-19 Response
I have no higher priority than the health and well-being of our guests, crews, and their friends and families – especially those who are in COVID-19 high-risk groups. I am also keen to ensure that people who have booked aboard the Amelie Rose for our 2020 season do not lose out financially from any actions I take in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. With this in mind I have today released this update to our COVID-19 response policy…
This article will be updated as any new information comes to light and I recommend that you bookmark this permalink (https://www.topsail-adventures.co.uk/2020/topsail-adventures-covid-19-response/) and check back regularly.

The government advice with regards to COVID-19 is for everybody to stay home if at all possible with a limited list of acceptable reasons to be out and about. Whilst not specifically mentioned, charter sailing businesses like us are clearly similar to others on the list of companies required to close our doors.
As of 20/03/2020, Topsail Adventures Ltd / Pilot Cutter Amelie Rose have ceased to operate our sailing adventures. In these rapidly changing and difficult circumstances I do not yet know when we will be able to resume sailing. We are now cancelling trips on a rolling basis as their balance payments become due – six weeks before each trip is due to start.
I have never run Topsail Adventures as a high margin “for profit” business, and so I do not have much of a financial cushion to fall back on at this time. If I issue full refunds for all of our cancelled trips, my reserves will be further depleted – potentially to the point where, before long, it will be impossible for me to restart operations and I will have to wind up the business permanently.
I hope that our customers will instead opt to help me keep both the business and Amelie Rose afloat by taking the option of being issued with a “CV19” Voucher.
This will work as follows; at the point that guests would have been asked to pay the balance on their adventure I will be cancelling their trips and issuing them with a Topsail Adventures “CV19” Voucher. This will have a value equivalent to the total amount of their deposit or, in the few instances where the balance has already been paid, their full balance (including deposit).
These vouchers will be valid to be used to pay towards any future Topsail Adventures trip and will have an expiration date of 31/12/2022.
Our bookings system remains open for those who wish to have a guess as to when we will be able to resume sailing operations and we have now uploaded our 2021 Schedule. As of 30 April 2020, we will no longer taking deposits for trips until the situation with COVID becomes clearer. You can still send us booking enquiries and we’ll confirm availability and hold the berths for you, but will only take a deposit and confirm your berths when it becomes clear that we’ll be able to run the adventure.
I will contact all affected guests by email to lay out their options at the time of the cancellation of their trip.
We are all living through incredibly difficult times; however, I believe that by working as a community, with empathy and togetherness, we can all get through this. I thank you all in advance for your understanding and patience.
Please do all that you can to keep yourself and all our fellow earthlings safe and well,
Nic Beck xx
