Thanks for the memories!

by | Oct 2, 2023 | Skipper's Notes

As we reminisce on the 13 seasons we have run charter on the Amelie Rose and carry out her final refit, we asked on social media for people to share their memories and thoughts on their experiences onboard - Topsail Adventures is, after all, here for the guest crew who sail on her!
We’re not going to lie, a few of these made us well up a little. Amelie Rose is so much more than a holiday ‘destination’, she’s been a life-changing, affirming and empowering experience for so many.
Let us hand over to some of our guest crew – many of whom are repeat offenders (sorry, returning clients):
“….the holiday I had on board was one of my very best ever holidays, twas at the very start of my journey too where I am today, you and the crew were so helpful. Whatever your future holds you made a massive difference in my life.” (Polly)
“Thanks for the great trips, Lots of good memories of the lovely Amelie Rose, you and your great catering” (Andrea)
“I will always remember my trip out to the scillies. Fantastic experience, and really made me appreciate a comfortable bed” (Nigel)
“had the honour of spending my 60th with you. Falmouth to Greenwich. I was a crap sailor so you stuck me up front as a ferret lookout. Greatest treat gift I’ve ever had.” (Daniel)
“She is a beautiful ship and the only one I’ve been on more than once.

She has so much character” (Suzanne)

“I only had a little taster weekend. But the best memories were meeting Nic, Kate and all the other friendly folk, great food plenty to drink getting to sleep on Amelie then waking in New Town creek? Doing 10/12 knots over the ground towards Hurst Castle – awesome memory.” (Colin)
“Sailed on her almost two years ago from Falmouth to the Scilly Isles for a weeks sailing, a trip that I will never forget!” (David)
“2019 mile builder to Beaulieu from Falmouth, last trip of the season … wild on the first day with a Force 5 but what a beautiful autumn second day from Dartmouth across Lyme Bay in glorious sunshine, early start with second breakfastes later in the morning …glorious!!

2021 brought on the Scillies complete with seasickness on the first night ( and a first ever for me ) and a “slight disturbance ” in Little Cove on the second night 😉 all followed by the glorious” Mr Blue Sky” run past the Spanish Ledge on day 3 …..Perfect!!

My bucket list runs over” (Ian)

“I saw her being launched at Gweek Quay in 2009 them sailed on her manys times after that and keeping up the tradition of polishing her brass nameplate on every trip.

My 60th Birthday to Yarmouth with my family of Pirates. Aug 2009 and friends Sep 2009. May 2010 Osbourne bay. Jun 2011 Cowes. Mar 2012 Yarmouth.

Aug 2013 OGA50 Race Cowes. Oct 2014 Weymouth. Aug 2015 Paimpol.
May 2016 Beaulieu. July 2017 Isles of Scilly. Apr 2019 Osbourne bay.

I have many wonderful memories of my trips” (Merv)
