AR19-18 Solent RYA Training Course

Improve your sailing skills with the best known sailing syllabus in the world aboard the prettiest school-boat in the Solent

Adventure Summary

No matter what your skill level there’s lots to learn aboard the Amelie Rose and the Solent is a great teaching ground for budding skippers too.

Put the two together and add in a passionate instructor with over 10 years experience of delivering RYA training courses and you have the perfect recipe.

Itinerary

You’ll be joining us at Bucklers Hard on the Beaulieu River on the Saturday night, where you can enjoy a meal at the Master Builders Hotel and meet the other crew. With food and introductions complete we’ll move to the boat where you’ll find yourself a bunk, stow your gear and have a look around the boat. Before we head to our bunks we’ll usually have a chat about the course, your personal expectations and the rough plan for the next few days.

After breakfast on Sunday morning the course will kick off – almost certainly with a discussion about safety briefings and preparations for sea. Later on we’ll head downriver and out into the Solent where you’ll spend the next week. We’ll visit a number of harbours and anchorages during the week, returning to Beaulieu only at the end of the course.

Most of the time we’ll remain inside the sheltered waters of the Solent unless we have Coastal Skipper students aboard in which case trips across channel or further along the coast may be on the cards. We’ll almost certainly spend a night or two at anchor as well as alongside in different styles of harbour. All of the courses that we teach aboard Amelie Rose require at least 4 hours of night sailing.

Depending on what the tide is up to, Friday may start early or include a lie in but there’ll probably be few last items to tick off on the syllabus before we head back to the Beaulieu River by mid afternoon. After packing up gear, our guest crews often decamp back to the pub for a farewell drink and debrief before heading home.
