Speaker Programme On
the 23rd April 2009 Nick Beck and Melisa Collett, IT specialists in
the City of London, departed the capital to start a new life in
Dorset. A day later, 300 miles away in Gweek, Cornwall, they watched
the manifestation of their dream, a 44 foot wooden sailing cutter
called Amelie Rose, take to the water for the very first time. The
story of what makes two sane and successful people build a 24 ton
traditional Pilot Cutter, and of what happens next, makes for an
entertaining, inspiring and often thought provoking examination of a
life-style change that appeals to many but which few have the courage
to seize.
Join
Nick as with video, slides, animations and plenty of fun he takes
you from the excitement of launch-day right back to the humble
beginnings of their dream - a small inflatable on a French Lake. From
here the story winds its way back toward the present day, taking in a
love story (or two), explosions, directions on how to build a pilot
cutter and ending up back in Gweek for Amelie Rose's first sail. Hailed as "a triumph" and "best talk of the year" at other venues now you too can hear the fascinating story first hand.
