One dark cold afternoon in November 2006 I took a phone call from a certain Mr Luke Powell, serial husband and sometime boat builder. During the call we agreed that he would build me a 44’ Pilot Cutter that would eventually become the Amelie Rose. A shade over two years later on April 24 2009 Amelie hit the water for the very first time and has since carried me and many of you on adventures far and wide.
Eleven years of my life has passed since that phone call – making this the longest that I have worked in a single job throughout what I laughingly refer to as my career. And now it’s time for a change. It’s time for me to seek out new challenges, to scale new peaks and to sail toward new horizons. To boldly… ah, well, never mind all that.
And so it is that almost 10 years to the day from when Luke and I agreed terms, I had another discussion agreeing with an agent to put Amelie Rose up for sale. She’s in great shape, and the business (which is also for sale) has never been stronger – but it’s time for someone else to join her - to write together a new chapter in her story.
