If you've been following our exploits on the website, facebook and twitter feeds you'll know that we've spent a large amount of the year filming for a new ITV1 series called The Hungry Sailors.
The series follows TV Personality and Celebrity Masterchef finalist Dick Strawbridge, his son James, Skipper Nick and First Mate Steve on a cruise along the South Coast aboard our very own Amelie Rose. Starting in Fowey and finishing in the heart of London the crew have visited almost every port in between.
At each stop Dick and James have been heading ashore to work with interesting food producers, design ingenious contraptions and find great food to cook aboard for the folks that they've met.
It's been an interesting and diverse experience; the 60 days of filming have taken us to new harbours, back to old haunts and even up the Thames to pass through Tower Bridge. Amelie Rose has been filmed from harbour walls, chase boats, a helicopter and almost every major headland from Cornwall to the Thames Esturary.
Along the way we've eaten an amazing range of food; from the humble (bangers made using a bicycle pump), to the exotic (beetroot and horseradish ice cream). We've watched the guys build a crazy array of gadgets; including a wind-powered coffee grinder, a detachable boat barbeque, a solar egg cooker and a bicycle-propelled blender.
We've also met some fantastic people, many of whom have, like us, left “normal” jobs to pursue their dreams and others who are carrying on their family traditions in the face of adversity. All of those we've met have shared a passion about the food that they produce, sell and eat, reminding us or our own passion for introducing people to the wonders of traditional sailing.
The series will air on ITV1 either this Autumn or early next year – we're not quite sure when yet but will let you know. Each hour-long episode will be packed with food, gadgets, interesting people and lots and lots of footage of Amelie Rose. There's a fair amount of Nick and Steve too – although we're sure that most of this will end up on the cutting room floor! So, keep a good lookout and have your TV Recorders at the ready; Amelie Rose is coming to a screen near you, soon! |
