Why Choose a Pilot Cutter?

Amelie Rose at SeaPilot Cutters like Amelie Rose were "state of the art" working boats built in the 1800's to deliver Pilots to incoming square-riggers. Capable of operating out in the North Atlantic in all weathers they were often crewed by just a master and apprentice (aka a man and a boy).

With 4 or 5 cutters on station at any time competition was cut-throat and when they spotted a possible client the cutters would race to put their pilot aboard first. It was the need to beat the opposition that made them into the ultimate in fast, sea-kindly sailing boats.

This combination of safety, strength and speed is what makes them such excellent charter boats.

Team Building

Working together as a team is imperative on Amelie RoseWe've found that nothing is better for team building than a day out in the elements, getting away from corporate constraints and boundaries and focusing on just working together.

Sailing the Amelie Rose provides a superb setting for groups to practice leadership, communication and teamwork. With up to five sails to hoist and control, and little of the modern labour-saving equipment carried on more modern yachts, she needs much more of a team effort to sail effectively.

There are many jobs that need to be carried out simultaneously to successfully sail the Amelie Rose and this needs constant communication and the ability to rely on each other - attributes that are core to the operation of great teams.

Sailing is complex, just like business, quick decision making, teamwork, communication and individual accountability are vital to achieve success. Each team member’s role is crucial whether you are trimming the sails, helming or navigating the boat. We think that sailing the Amelie Rose is a better analogy to business activity than many other “Outward Bound” style courses.

Client & Staff Entertainment

We all need to spend money wisely in these difficult times, however looking after and building great relationships with our best customers is even more important when things are tight. Corporate sailing events on the Amelie Rose offer you a chance to consolidate your key business relationships by sharing an unforgettable experience, we call it the Amelie Rose effect:

Many of our own clients come back again and again and it's easy to see why. She's big, powerful, exciting to sail but very stable underway and offers plenty of opportunity to participate. Her large open deck space lets your staff and clients spread out, rather than being crammed together in a small cockpit and there's lots to see and do whether we sail in the Solent or from our base in Poole.
